Violence Against Women Act
In March of 2013 Obama signed an updated version/re-authorization of the act, which is a measure intended to promote state and local efforts to combat rape and domestic assault and which will extend new protections to gays, lesbians, and Native Americans. Since the act was first enacted in 1994 (which VP Joe Biden initially wrote) and over a 15 year period there has been a 58% drop in the rate of sexual assault against women and girls.
